About us

Ben and Tess founded Recharge in 2023 after exiting out of a very successful trades business they co-founded and managed. They want to pass on their deep business knowledge and life skills to help other business owners achieve their personal and business goals and aspirations.

We’re really passionate about the trades industry and its people. Our experience is what separates us from your usual accountants and business advisors.

Ben Annabell

Ben grew up in Taranaki on a sheep and beef farm, learnt how to work hard from a young age and was instilled with quality values and a can do attitude from top notch parents.

After completing school certificate at New Plymouth Boys High School, in 2002 Ben started a Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying apprenticeship with local South Taranaki plumbing firm Houghtons Plumbing.

Through exceptional tutoring and support throughout his apprenticeship Ben qualified with a passion for the industry that would allow him to work all over the world.

After various stints abroad working in the UK and Australia, Ben returned home with his wife Tess in 2013 and Evergreen Plumbing was born. This is where the deep passion and interest in business
success developed and it has been an incredible journey.

Ben and Tess have 2 children, Ivy and Fred. Their whole purpose in life going forward is to get that balance right between working and spending time with their children. Bens hobbies include hunting,
gardening, knife making and crypto!

After more than 20 years in the building industry, Ben is super confident he can apply incredible value to your life both personally and in your business success.

This is by far the most exciting time of his professional career and he can’t wait to work with likeminded tradies to teach them what he has done well and where he wishes he had done things a bit different! Honesty and integrity are Bens most important values.

Tess Annabell

Tess Annabell

Tess grew up in Hawera, South Taranaki. From an early age Tess has been a giver. With an incredibly smart mind Tess has been through Hawera High School, onto university where she qualified as a
Marine Biologist, traveled the world, and in 2011 started working with a large investment firm in London. This is where a passion for finance was developed and upon her return to NZ in 2013 a
career in Accounting was carved out. Tess’ knowledge of accounting has been deeply fine tuned around the farming and trades industries, however her passion is the trades industry and this is
where she can apply exceptional value to all current and future business owners.

Tess’ biggest passion in life is her 2 children Ivy and Fred. Aligning with Bens priorities, spending time with family is the most important focus going forward. Balancing family and work life is something extremely important to Tess and helping others achieve this same mindset is something Tess is very passionate about.
As a chartered accountant with exceptional industry knowledge and a wide array of life skills to boot, Tess is super excited about being able to offer Accounting services to our tradies!

Our Story

Over the past 10 years Ben and Tess Annabell have lived and breathed the building industry. In 2013 they started a Plumbing, Gas fitting and Drainlaying company along with another local tradie, which over time grew to a team of 15 staff with opportunities extended to shareholders along the way. Through years of business mentorship, smart decisions and a lot of hard work and focus the business became very profitable and thrived to become a well-known brand in Taranaki.

Personal health issues and near burnout caused Ben to rethink his future and assess his priorities so after 9 years as managing Director of the plumbing company Ben and Tess negotiated a successful exit with the existing shareholders which is where Ben and Tess then nurtured their passion for helping others with Business Support, Chartered Accountancy and health and wellbeing of our often stressed and burnt-out tradesman and tradeswoman.

With Tess being a highly skilled and capable chartered accountant and Ben having successfully started, sold and exited a thriving trades business they decided to combine their passion and skills for helping others and this is how Recharge was born.

Recharge is a chartered accountancy and business advisory firm to the trades industry for small to medium enterprise. As well as providing high value accounting and business advice, our real passion is focusing on the health and wellbeing of our tradies and providing ideas, education and support to prevent stress, burnout and ultimately mental illness.

Recharge is proud to be offering Retreats to our clients where we can provide an opportunity to disconnect from the stress of business for a few days while we rest, sleep, eat well, meditate, learn yoga and breathing exercises. We get professional massages, we hunt, gather and forage. We make sausages, bacon and salamis or a knife, we fish, enjoy bush walks and generally connect with nature and destress. These retreats are held in some of the most beautiful settings in Taranaki with packages tailored to suit individual interests. With scheduled business sessions and mental health chats on the retreats we discuss the stressful elements of business or work/life and we work together to put strategies, systems and ideas in place in order to manage these issues through changes in both the business and your personal life.

Over the next few months after the retreat, we stay connected and provide additional support to implement these changes.
